Our History

Austral Printing Co. started in Willoughby in 1947, by two men who formed a partnership to create an all Australian Printing company. Hence the name "Austral". In 1972 Austral Printing Co. moved to West Ryde as the business needed to expand.

Also in 1972, two years after completing my apprenticeship, my mother, Valeria, and I purchased

Picca Press Pty Ltd., an Instant Print shop located in Haberfield. It took several years before the business was self sufficient and I could leave my full time position at W. J. Cryer & Co. (Avery Labels). During this time I worked my way up from being a single colour to a four colour machinist and eventually being promoted to company estimator.

By early 1985 Picca Press was no longer just an Instant Print shop, but was offering commercial printing and thus needed larger equipment and larger premises. At this time Wymond Morell (my former employer) made contact and asked if I would like to expand. He knew of a company for sale "Austral Printing Co" that would allow our business to grow. In May 1985 my mother and I, purchased Austral Printing Co., and merged the two businesses. As the "new" Austral Printing Co. flourished, more equipment and more staff were added, and "more family". Since the companies beginnings to present times, there have been three generations of the one family working alongside each other.

My daughters Margaret and Julie have worked here and my son David, who completed his apprenticeship with us and is currently our Production Manager. My second son Lucas, also completed his apprenticeship with us and now manages a large format digital printing business in Sydney.

A honest and hard working ethic is a quality that all employess obtain while here, whether they have remained with us or have moved on.

The Austral Team consists of three generations from the one family and offers over 100 years of collective experience in printing, quality control and customer service. Austral Printing Co. is a "proudly" family owned and operated printing business that has been providing high quality commercial printing for over sixty-five years, and have created a friendly, quality printing service you can count on.
